Kumba, Cameroon — Residents of Fiango in Kumba II Subdivision have expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament for Kumba Urban, Hon. Tabot Lawson Bakia, following the provision of a borehole and the expansion of water access points at Fiango Market.
Daily queues in front of Fiango Market have become a familiar sight as residents gather to fetch clean drinking water, a precious resource that has remained a major concern for many households due to persistent challenges with the CAMWATER supply.
Previously, residents had to walk long distances in search of water or depend on a single tap, resulting in long queues and difficulties accessing the essential resource.
However, the construction of a borehole through the intervention of Hon. Tabot Lawson Bakia, followed by an increase in the number of taps, has helped ease the burden on residents by bringing water closer to the community and improving access for more families.
The development has been welcomed by members of the community, who see the initiative as a significant step towards improving public hygiene, sanitation and the general well-being of the population.
Beyond the immediate intervention in Fiango, the Kumba Urban MP has announced plans to further improve access to potable water across the municipality.
According to the commitment, six additional boreholes are expected to be constructed across Kumba I, Kumba II and Kumba III subdivisions before the end of 2026.
The MP has also pledged to rehabilitate existing boreholes in areas including Teke, Appoloniare Street and Mbonge Road, as part of broader efforts to address water shortages in different communities.
If implemented as planned, the proposed projects could provide relief to more households that continue to face difficulties accessing safe drinking water.
For residents of Fiango, the intervention at the market represents more than an additional water source; it offers renewed hope for improved living conditions and more reliable access to one of life's most basic necessities.
