Buea, Cameroon — The United Socialist Democratic Party (USDP) has paid its last respect to late comrade Mosoke Lucas Lyonga, the party’s aspiring mayor of Buea Municipality, who was laid to rest on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

The burial ceremony brought together the party’s national chairman, Prince Ekosso, alongside other party officials and militants who turned out massively to honour the memory of their departed militant.

The funeral program, which began on Friday, October 23 with a wake keep, culminated in the burial ceremony on Saturday, October 24, in Buea, where family members, friends, political associates and sympathisers gathered to bid farewell to a man remembered for his commitment to the party and his vision for the municipality of Buea.

Speaking to Pinnacle Times, the national chairman of the USDP, Prince Ekosso, described the late Mosoke Lucas Lyonga as a force to reckon with within the party, highlighting his active participation and dedication to party activities.

According to the party leader, Lyonga was a committed militant whose political ambitions went beyond personal aspirations. He reportedly envisioned transforming Buea Municipality into a smart city through development initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of the population and modernising the municipality.

His vision, the chairman noted, reflected his desire to contribute to the development of Buea and make the municipality a more organised, modern and functional city.

Prince Ekosso further described the death of Lyonga as a great loss to the USDP, stressing that the party had lost an active member whose ambitions and contributions could have helped advance its political objectives and development agenda.

In a demonstration of solidarity, the USDP supported the bereaved family morally, financially and logistically to facilitate the funeral arrangements and ensure that their departed comrade received a befitting burial.

Other party officials also participated in the funeral preparations and subsequent burial, reinforcing the party’s commitment to standing by its members and their families in moments of grief.

The party’s massive turnout at the funeral served as a demonstration of its respect for the late Lyonga and recognition of his place within its ranks.

For the USDP, his passing represents not only the loss of a fellow militant but also the departure of a political figure whose aspirations for Buea Municipality were anchored on the vision of a smart city.

As family members, friends and party militants come to terms with his death, the late Mosoke Lucas Lyonga leaves behind a vision for Buea that his political associates will remember as part of his legacy.

Militants of other political parties like the Cameroon National Salvation front also attended the funeral on basis of solidarity.

Lyonga, before his death served as CEO of Excellence Union International Group

Shortly before his death on September 21 2026, he had on August 10 2026, participated in the party’s mobilisation activities in Fako Division ahead of the 2027 legislative and municipal elections.
